Keeping birds from digging up your garden - with plastic snakes

I like birds, and my garden attracts them. I have trees, and flowers, and all of the things that birds love. And unfortunately my garden also has things that birds love in the dirt - worms. And for the past twenty years or so I've been trying to figure out how to keep the birds from digging huge holes in my garden. I've tried a lot of things, wires with pieces of aluminum foil tied on them, and many other goofy things that did absolutely nothing. And then I discovered plastic snakes - and it's the only thing that's worked. And it works great!

The plastic snakes come from the dollar store, and I just spread them around the garden. This big green one is a favorite, and tends to move around, sometimes attacked by birds, and then chewed on by my dog. It's really not all that convincing to me, but the birds see the shape and stay away. I also have smaller plastic snakes all over the garden. Since I've been using the plastic snakes I've seen no more holes dug into the garden by birds.

So go to the dollar store and get a bunch of plastic snakes. Hang them from trees, put them on rocks. They work!
